FEATURED QUESTION

Can I take my medication while traveling out of the country?

You can take your medication when traveling out of the country. It’s important to check your destination’s medication regulations. Even though you’re taking your medication for your health, most countries regulate medications to avoid misuse.

Most unused syringes and injectable medications are allowed during international travel. It’s best to inform airport security (TSA) that you have injectable medication packed. It’s recommended to double-check with the airline and country you’re traveling to because it’s not always guaranteed these types of medications will be allowed.

Before you travel out of the country:

  • Confirm how much medication you can pack for the country you are visiting.
  • Get a letter from your doctor or pharmacist stating the medication you take and why it’s needed.
  • Pack a list of your prescriptions.
  • Make sure you’re reading the most up-to-date medication regulations.

How to pack your medications:

  • Keep medication in its original container.
  • Pack your medications in a carry-on.
  • Store heat-sensitive medications on ice or in an insulated bag.
  • Store injectable medication in its original container or a sharps disposal container.
